{"id":87,"date":"2013-06-10T00:15:51","date_gmt":"2013-06-10T00:15:51","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/unclogged.rl-imaging.com\/?p=87"},"modified":"2013-06-27T12:54:15","modified_gmt":"2013-06-27T19:54:15","slug":"adobe-and-case-sensitive-filesystems","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/unclogged.rl-imaging.com\/?p=87","title":{"rendered":"Adobe and case-sensitive filesystems"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>My Mac has multiple filesystems.\u00a0 Non-system partitions are formatted Case-sensitive, Journaled while past experience with Adobe has taught me that the OS partition must be formatted Case-<strong>in<\/strong>sensitive, Journaled.\u00a0 The global Applications folder and the admin account&#8217;s home dir live on OS partition.\u00a0 My non-privileged account&#8217;s home dir lives on a case-sensitive partition.<\/p>\n<p>I\u00a0 tried to install InDesign CS6 as myself via Adobe Application Manager download.\u00a0 Very early on in the process, it threw up this error:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/unclogged.rl-imaging.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/Screen-Shot-2013-06-03-at-12.43.45-PM1.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-101\" alt=\"Screen Shot 2013-06-03 at 12.43.45 PM\" src=\"https:\/\/unclogged.rl-imaging.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/Screen-Shot-2013-06-03-at-12.43.45-PM1.png\" width=\"551\" height=\"183\" srcset=\"https:\/\/unclogged.rl-imaging.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/Screen-Shot-2013-06-03-at-12.43.45-PM1.png 551w, https:\/\/unclogged.rl-imaging.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/Screen-Shot-2013-06-03-at-12.43.45-PM1-300x99.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 551px) 100vw, 551px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Googling for that error code, A12E1, returned nothing useful.\u00a0 I downloaded the full installation dmg, then ran the installer.\u00a0 Different error:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/unclogged.rl-imaging.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/Screen-Shot-2013-06-03-at-12.48.42-PM1.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-102\" alt=\"Screen Shot 2013-06-03 at 12.48.42 PM\" src=\"https:\/\/unclogged.rl-imaging.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/Screen-Shot-2013-06-03-at-12.48.42-PM1.png\" width=\"551\" height=\"183\" srcset=\"https:\/\/unclogged.rl-imaging.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/Screen-Shot-2013-06-03-at-12.48.42-PM1.png 551w, https:\/\/unclogged.rl-imaging.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/Screen-Shot-2013-06-03-at-12.48.42-PM1-300x99.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 551px) 100vw, 551px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Which is frustrating because the partition I was trying to install on is case-insensitive.\u00a0 Also, the installer does not allow you to select a different partition.\u00a0 I saw many complaints in various forums about this decade-old bug.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Solution<\/strong>: Log in as admin (home dir on case-insensitive partition), run ID6 installer from downloaded dmg, log out of admin, log back in as myself, and run ID6.\u00a0 The installer checks the active user&#8217;s home partition for case-sensitivity which does not make sense since the legacy stuff lives on the case-insensitive OS partition.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>My Mac has multiple filesystems.\u00a0 Non-system partitions are formatted Case-sensitive, Journaled while past experience with Adobe has taught me that the OS partition must be formatted Case-insensitive, Journaled.\u00a0 The global Applications folder and the admin account&#8217;s home dir live on OS partition.\u00a0 My non-privileged account&#8217;s home dir lives on a case-sensitive partition.
